Different fleets have different tracking needs. Some businesses need more detailed recordings, some only want tracking during working hours, and others may need options such as PIN protection, speed-based recording, or walking activity tracking.
The MyCarTracks app includes default settings that work well for many fleets. However, if you manage multiple drivers, setting up each device manually can take time.
Managed App Settings make this easier. With this feature, you can configure the app settings on one device, test them, export them, and then apply the same settings to selected drivers from the MyCarTracks web application.
How it works
The recommended workflow is:
-
Set up and test the settings on one MyCarTracks app.
-
Export those settings from the app.
-
Import the settings into the web application.
-
Assign the settings to selected drivers or to your whole fleet.
This helps keep all driver apps configured consistently from one place.
Before you start
We recommend testing the settings on one device first to make sure they work the way you need.
If possible, use an Android device when creating the settings file, because the Android app includes more advanced settings options.
Drivers also need to use the latest version of the MyCarTracks app. Managed App Settings are not supported in older app versions.
How to create and assign Managed App Settings
-
Open the MyCarTracks app on one device.
-
Go to Menu / Settings and adjust the settings you want to use for your fleet.
-
Test the settings on the device to make sure they work as expected.
-
In the app, go to Menu / Settings / Export/Import.
-
Tap Export settings.
-
When asked, tap Yes to share the exported settings file.
-
Send the exported settings file to your email, or use another option to save the file to your computer.
-
Log in to the MyCarTracks web application at www.mycartracks.com.
-
In the left menu, go to Configuration / App Settings.
-
Click Add app settings.
-
Click Browse and select the exported settings file from your computer.
-
Click Import app settings.
-
The imported settings will appear in the App settings field. You do not need to edit anything in this field.
-
Enter a Name for these settings. This name is only for your own identification, so choose something that will help you recognize the settings later.
-
Select the drivers you want to assign these settings to.
-
If you want to assign the settings to all current drivers, select Assign app settings to all my drivers.
-
Click Save and push app settings to drivers.
The settings will now be sent to the selected drivers’ MyCarTracks apps.
Allowing remote settings in the app
Managed App Settings are allowed by default in the MyCarTracks app. However, the app user can turn this option off.
The option can be found here:
Android:
Menu / Settings / Online tracking & Synchronization / Allow remote settings
iOS:
Menu / Settings / Allow remote settings
If this option is turned off, Managed App Settings will not be applied to that app.
Important note for new drivers
When you create a new driver or vehicle later, these settings may not be assigned automatically. Make sure you select the correct Managed App Settings when creating the new driver or vehicle, or assign the settings manually afterwards.
How to assign App Settings when creating a new driver
When you create a new driver from Fleet / Drivers & Devices, you can assign Managed App Settings during the setup.
In the Add new driver form, find the App settings dropdown and select the settings you want to apply to that driver.
After the driver is created, the selected settings will be assigned to their MyCarTracks app.
How to assign App Settings when creating a vehicle with a driver
You can also assign Managed App Settings when creating a new vehicle and driver together.
-
Go to Fleet / Vehicles.
-
Click the + button to start adding a new vehicle.
-
Enter the vehicle details.
-
In the Drivers section, click Add new driver. This opens the form for adding a new driver and automatically generates an Account ID.
-
Click + Add details to show the additional driver details.
-
In the App settings dropdown, select the settings you want to apply to this driver.
-
Continue with the rest of the setup and save the vehicle.
The selected settings will be assigned to the driver’s MyCarTracks app.
