# Show IDs when using the AI Assistant **Category:** [AI Assistant](https://community.mycartracks.com/c/ai-assistant/60) **Created:** 2026-07-07 08:58 UTC **Views:** 2 **Replies:** 0 **URL:** https://community.mycartracks.com/t/show-ids-when-using-the-ai-assistant/443 --- ## Post #1 by @MyCarTracks_support Turning on **Display IDs** in the MyCarTracks portal makes it easier to work precisely with your account data in the AI Assistant, support, and your own records. An ID is a unique number for a portal object such as a track, geofence, customer, expense, job, vehicle, or another record. When you include that ID in your question, the assistant can understand exactly which item you mean. This is useful when several records have similar names, dates, routes, drivers, customers, locations, or amounts. ## Quick answer Open [Portal settings](https://www.mycartracks.com/portal/settings), go to **General**, set **Display IDs** to **True**, and save the settings. After that, the portal shows IDs in supported places across the portal. You can then copy or type the ID in your AI Assistant question. ![Display IDs setting in the MyCarTracks portal|500x94](upload://r7BmE3MwVyou6Vq9RNQ3ePNkCJY.png) ## Why IDs help the AI Assistant Names, dates, vehicle labels, customer names, geofence names, and expense descriptions can be ambiguous. IDs are precise. For example, a question like `Check the Toyota Prius track from July 7` may match more than one track. A question like `Check track ID 90703765` points to one exact record. The same idea applies to a geofence, customer, expense, job, or another portal item. IDs help when you want the assistant to work with user data more precisely, for example when you need it to: - find a specific record quickly - explain a track, geofence, customer, expense, job, or report result - compare two records - help verify a mileage total - prepare a report or portal link for the correct record - investigate why a track is missing, duplicated, short, long, or classified incorrectly - check a specific geofence, customer, expense, or job setup - help support understand which record you are asking about ## Turn on Display IDs 1. Sign in to the MyCarTracks web portal. 2. Open [https://www.mycartracks.com/portal/settings](https://www.mycartracks.com/portal/settings). 3. In the left settings menu, select **General**. 4. Find **IDs**. 5. Set **Display IDs** to **True**. 6. Click **Save**. If you do not see the setting immediately, scroll down inside the General settings page. It is near the date and time format settings. ## Where IDs appear When **Display IDs** is enabled, the portal can show IDs for many supported records, including: - tracks - geofences - customers - expenses - jobs - vehicles - other portal records where IDs are useful The screenshots below show track IDs as an example. In the track list, the ID appears directly on the track card. ![Track ID visible in the track list|620x180](upload://wbcOrPgjP1UT4fIsUiOczgVnKy4.png) The same track ID is also visible on the track detail page. ![Track ID visible on track detail|520x360](upload://XKwi5bJUZsGSfF2ZyH939yKxkX.png) This makes it easier to confirm that the assistant, report, and portal are all referring to the same record. ## How to use IDs in assistant questions Include the ID directly in your question. You can use short, specific prompts like: - `Open track ID 90703765.` - `Why is track ID 90703765 classified as business?` - `Show me the report that includes track ID 90703765.` - `Compare track ID 90703765 with the next track from the same vehicle.` - `Help me verify the distance for track ID 90703765.` - `Check geofence ID 1842 and explain which alerts use it.` - `Show expenses for customer ID 315.` - `Find job ID 729 and summarize its related tracks.` - `Help me review expense ID 5521.` If you are asking about a report, include the date range and vehicle too: - `Show business mileage for Toyota Prius from July 1 to July 31, 2026, and check whether track ID 90703765 is included.` - `Create a Log Book link for July 2026 and make sure it includes track ID 90703765.` ## Verify important results IDs make assistant answers easier to verify, but you should still check important results in the portal before using them for tax, reimbursement, payroll, billing, or customer records. When the assistant gives you an answer, open the linked MyCarTracks page and confirm that the visible ID matches the record you meant. For more detail, see [Verify AI Assistant results](https://community.mycartracks.com/t/verify-ai-assistant-results/441). ## Keep IDs private when needed Record IDs are not passwords, but they identify records inside your MyCarTracks account. Share them with the AI Assistant or MyCarTracks support when you need help with a specific record. Avoid posting IDs publicly together with vehicle, driver, customer, job, expense, geofence, route, or location details unless you are comfortable sharing that context. --- **Canonical:** https://community.mycartracks.com/t/show-ids-when-using-the-ai-assistant/443 **Original content:** https://community.mycartracks.com/t/show-ids-when-using-the-ai-assistant/443
