How to add a trip manually on Android

If a drive is missing from your history, you can add it manually in MyCarTracks. Enter the start and end addresses, choose when you left, and review the calculated route before saving. You can also copy an existing trip to record another drive along the same route.

In the app, trip records are called Tracks. Check your history first so you do not add a drive that is already recorded.

Add a missing trip

You will need an internet connection for address suggestions and route calculation, and a vehicle available in the app.

  1. Open MyCarTracks and tap Tracks in the bottom navigation.
  2. Tap + to open Add Track.
  3. Enter the Start address and End address. Select the matching suggestion when it appears, checking the street and town.
  4. Set the Start date and time to when the drive took place. A new entry starts with the current date and time, so change these when adding an older trip.
  5. Add an optional Description, such as “Customer visit — Oak Street.” This is the trip’s purpose or note.
  6. Check the Category and Vehicle. Tap the category to switch between Business and Personal, or tap the vehicle to choose another one.

Check the addresses, date and time, category, and vehicle for the trip you are adding.

  1. Tap Calculate Route.
  2. Review the map, Distance, and Estimated end time in the Preview. Use the expand button on the map for a closer look.
  3. Tap the checkmark in the top-right corner to create the track and return to your trip list.

Review the calculated distance and estimated end time. Expand the map for a closer look, then save with the top-right checkmark.

The checkmark becomes available once a route is ready. If you change an address or the start date or time on a new entry, tap Calculate Route again before saving.

The app calculates the distance and estimated end time from the route; these are not fields you type into on this screen. A calculated route may differ from the drive you took, and its timing and speed details are estimates. Review it before using the entry in your records.

Copy an existing trip

For a repeated journey, Make a copy saves you entering the same details again.

  1. In Tracks, press and hold the completed trip you want to reuse.
  2. Open the three-dot menu and choose Make a copy. Select only one trip; copying is unavailable for a trip that is still recording.
  3. Change the Start date and time to the new journey. The form starts with the original trip’s date and time.
  4. Review the addresses, description, category, and vehicle, and update anything that differs.
  5. Check the route preview, then tap the top-right checkmark to save a separate trip.

When the original trip’s route is available, it is loaded into the preview. Changing the copy’s date or time keeps that route, so you can save without recalculating. If no route appears, tap Calculate Route first.

Choosing Calculate Route for a loaded copy asks whether to recalculate. The new route may differ from the original. The original trip remains unchanged.

Add the return journey

Save the outward trip first, then use Make a copy and tap Reverse Direction. This swaps the start and end addresses and reverses any route already in the preview.

Set the return journey’s start date and time, and review its details. To calculate a fresh driving route in the return direction, tap Calculate Route and confirm if prompted. Check the preview and save with the checkmark.

Reversing direction does not save a second trip automatically; it changes the entry you are preparing.

Find and synchronize the saved trip

Look for the trip under the date you entered. If it is not visible, check your date, vehicle, category, and other active filters.

You can review the saved trip’s route and chart in its detail view.

For a manually calculated trip, MyCarTracks generates a realistic speed simulation with gradual acceleration, slowdowns, and changes in cruising speed. These simulated speeds are estimates.

The blue line shows the simulated speed, and the black line shows elevation.

By default, manually created tracks include MANUAL in their name. You can control this for new entries under Settings > Auto recording & Recording > Mark manual tracks.

Saving creates the trip on your phone. With Online tracking enabled, the app also requests synchronization. Check that the trip has synchronized before looking for it in your web account. See Synchronization for the available options.

If you cannot calculate or save the trip

  • Check your connection. Address lookup and route calculation need internet access.
  • Check both addresses. Select the correct suggestion and include the town or city if the result is ambiguous.
  • Try a nearby street. If the app cannot find a driving route to the selected location, choose a nearby street and calculate again.
  • Check the vehicle. A vehicle must be selected before you can create the track.
