# How to add a note or purpose to a track

In MyCarTracks, the note for a drive is called **Purpose**. When you use **Add/Edit Purpose** , the text is saved as the track description, so you can use it for job notes, customer names, work orders, or the reason for a business drive.

The fastest way is to add the purpose soon after the drive, while the job is still fresh.

## Add a note from the Home screen

Use this option when you want to update your most recent drive quickly.

1. Open the MyCarTracks mobile app.
2. On **Home** , find the **Last drive** card.
3. Tap the three-dot menu on the drive card.
4. Tap **Add/Edit Purpose**.
5. Type your note in the **Purpose** field.
6. Tap **Save**.

## Add a note from the Tracks screen

Use this option when you need to update an older drive or choose from a list of tracks.

1. Open the MyCarTracks mobile app.

2. Tap **Tracks** in the bottom navigation.

3. Find the drive you want to update. Use the date filters if needed.

4. Select the track, or hold the track to open more options.

5. Open the three-dot menu in the top-right corner.

6. Tap **Add/Edit Purpose**.

7. Type your note in the **Purpose** field.

8. Tap **Save**.

## Add the same note to more than one track

If you select more than one track before choosing **Add/Edit Purpose** , the same purpose is saved as the description for all selected tracks. Use this only when the selected drives should share the same job note.

## Examples of useful purpose notes

- `Acme Plumbing - estimate visit`
- `Job 1042 - supply pickup`
- `Client meeting - Main Street office`
- `Site visit - roof inspection`

Short, consistent notes are usually easier to enter on the phone and easier to review later in reports.

## Editing notes from the web app

If you are preparing a report from the web app, you can also edit notes quickly in **Reports \> [Log Book](https://www.mycartracks.com/portal/logBook)**. Here, click the **Edit** button above the table. If it’s not available, you need to filter one vehicle.

Then easily add or update the description on any entry you need, and then click **Save**.

## Questions

### Is Purpose the same as a note?

Yes. In the mobile app, use **Add/Edit Purpose** when you want to add a note that explains what the drive was for.

### Will this change the drive category?

No. The purpose note does not change whether the drive is **Business** or **Personal**. If needed, change the category separately.

### Will the note appear in reports?

The purpose is saved as the track description and can be used when reviewing or preparing log book reports.
